The IRON Book of New Humorous Verse
Please read the following guidelines before submitting poems.
Submission Guidelines
- This is not a competition. There are no entry fees and no prizes.
- We can only consider poems written by adults (18 and over).
- Submissions must be sent by post (but not recorded delivery please) to Eileen Jones c/o Iron Press, 5 Marden Terrace, Cullercoats, North Shields, Northumberland, NE30 4PD and postmarked on or before 31st March 2010. We can't acknowledge, or consider email submissions. Please write 'EJ' on the top left hand corner of the envelope and include your full postal address and a telephone number.
- Please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope (not postcard) with your submission. Providing you do so, you will be notified by post of the outcome of your submission, by the end of April 2010.
- We are unable to return manuscripts or offer feedback.
- Maximum number of lines per poem is 50. We can accept submissions of up to 4 poems.
- The poems should be for adults, in English, typed on one side of A4 only, and your name and address should appear on each sheet.
- Poems can be written in any form and on any subject, but they must aim to be humorous.
- Poems may have been published elsewhere, or broadcast, providing the date of publication or broadcast is no earlier than 1990, but must not have appeared in another anthology of humorous verse.
- Copyright remains with the authors but IRON Press will have the unrestricted right to publish selected poems or extracts from them on its website and in press releases publicising the launch of the anthology.
- Publication is planned for October 2010. If your work is included you will receive a copy of the anthology and a small payment. You will also be invited to read your work at launch events.
Other Submissions
No unsolicited submissions please. We are a small press, and able to accept only a small number of new books. We do not publish novels. Our range is poetry, (including haiku), collections of short stories, and anthologies of verse and prose. If you think you have something that might interest us, firstly email us with brief details.
